The Kreiken Square

On the 29th of April, Study Association Stress, the Kreiken family and the alumni office officially opened the Kreiken Square; a comfortable study spot outside the Stress-room in the Ravelijn building. The desks  are equipped with good desk chairs and external monitors that students can connect their laptops to.

Jan Kreiken joined the Technische Hogeschool Twente in 1968 as professor, and in 1971, founded the first Industrial Engineering and Management programme in the Netherlands. He continued his impact on the University of Twente in the role of rector magnificus from 1974 to 1976, where he drove change in student recruitment, thereby enabling the university’s future growth.

“The Kreiken Square was created in honour of Jan Kreiken on his 100th birthday. To commemorate his lasting impact on the University of Twente as a whole and IEM and (I)BA specifically. His family approached the university with the wish to establish a tribute alongside a symposium in his honour. Rather than choosing a symbolic monument, such as a statue or a tree, the aim was to create something with a lasting and practical impact on future generations of students.”
